How to import Sticky Notes from Windows 7 to Windows 10

Scenario:

I have upgraded from windows 7 to window 10 Pre-Anniversary Update(latest version 1709). Now I want to Import Sticky Notes which I have backup before the upgrade. Windows 7 has StickyNotes.snt which we need to convert to plum.sqlite. So it's not easy like we used to do by replacing StickyNotes.snt at C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Sticky Notes\StickyNotes.snt

Solution

If you haven't open Sticky notes app on your machine before, then you can directly start from step5.
  1. Go to Apps & Features
  2. Search & Select Sticky Notes and click on the Advance option
  3. Click on Reset, Which will delete all data
  4. Now do not open Sticky Notes app
  5. Navigate to %LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\Microsoft.MicrosoftStickyNotes_8wekyb3d8bbw\LocalStateSome user might have different Package here Microsoft.MicrosoftStickyNotes_8wekyb3d8bbwe
  6. Create a new folder Legacy inside LocalState
  7. Place your StickyNotes.snt to the Legacy folder and rename it ThresholdNotes.snt (Better you copy paste the name from here)
  8. Now it's time to Start Sticky Notes
Boom!! hope you got your notes back. Now offer me a cup of coffee 😜

How to take back of the new Sticky Notes (plum.sqlite)?

If you now back up this new sticky notes then all you have to do is copy everything from Microsoft.MicrosoftStickyNotes_8wekyb3d8bbwe folder and placed wherever you want.

To restore the above backup files:

first, make sure the Sticky Notes app is closed. Now locate the same folder we pointed you to above and copy all your backed up files there.
